Dr. Fuller's Vet Tips

McKensieIn November 2006, the State of Texas officially granted the Friends of Tri-City Animal Shelter organization a 501 (c) (3) non-profit status. Within a year a Board consisting of a group of committed volunteers began to dedicate themselves to finding ways to enrich the lives of all animals passing through the Tri-City Animal Shelter. With much dedication and hard work, the Friends group is recognized by the three cities the shelter serves for their on-going commitment to our Shelter, the staff and its furry residents.

The Friends participate in off-site adoptions with shelter staff, as well as sponsoring special monthly adoptions and low-cost microchipping events at the Shelter on the 2nd Saturday of every month from 10am - 3pm. And, our annual well-attended events include: Smooches for Pooches Wine & Beer Tasting in February, a Garage Sale in April or May, participation in Cedar Hill's Uptown Village Concert Series in July, and our annual Gala in September (our major fundraiser).

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Because of our fundraising, we have been able to:pollyanna

Purchase customized pet-friendly furniture for the shelter lobby and meet-and-greet rooms.

Financially participate in the addition of a permanent shade structure for the dog runs on the west side of the shelter building

Install cipher locks for easier access to the kennels

Provide hand-held microchip scanners for our Animal Control Officers.  These scanners allow officers to detect a microchip in a stray dog or cat, and to return the animal back to their home, thus keeping the animal from being entered into the shelter system

Provide a state-of-the-art cat play tower for the cat meet-and-greet room

Provide a toy for EVERY DOG AND CAT at the shelter so that they may feel loved and cared for

Provide toys for every dog and cat to take home at the time of their adoption

 Purchase cages for off-site adoptions

Purchase a walk-on scale for dogs, and heavy-duty clippers for staff's use

Provide "treats" for the shelter staff as a reminder that we appreciate them and their work

Transport animals to other shelters, foster homes and rehab

Upon adoption, we also offer financial support towards treatment of a heartworm-positive dog

Actively participate in and assist financially in a local cat TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) Program
